Primary education
How is primary education of the International Baccalaureate (IB) organised?
IB primary education
The International Baccalaureate's primary education is known as the Primary Years Programme (PYP). It is designed for students aged 3 to 12. Students usually engage in this education in English, French or Spanish, although other languages are also accommodated. While students choose 1 primary language of instruction, they have the option to learn more than 1 language starting from the age of 7.
Themes in primary education
The PYP comprises 6 multidisciplinary themes, with a central focus on understanding the world:
- who we are;
- where we are in place and time;
- how we express ourselves;
- how the world works;
- how we organise ourselves;
- sharing the planet.
You can visit the International Baccalaureate (IB) website for more information about the PYP.
