Trends and Developments in Higher Education

What are the current trends and developments in the field of internationalisation in higher education? Impact, talent retention, strategic positioning, inclusion, technology and knowledge security are increasingly proving to be key factors in shaping the way institutions and experts view this subject.

During the EAIE in Glasgow last September, these topics and various developments were a recurring theme. We will bring you up to speed with a handy overview of the themes distilled from the sessions, workshops and poster presentations delivered (including by Nuffic colleagues) during the conference.

The trends and developments mentioned show that internationalisation is changing. The focus is shifting from growth to meaning, from numbers to impact, from mobility to talent development, and from international activities to added value in society. The central question is no longer how many international activities take place, but what value these activities deliver for students, institutions and society. Internationalisation is becoming less of an end in itself and increasingly a means of tackling social, economic and global issues.
