Grades and study results

How do educational institutions assess study results in Algeria? And what documents do students receive when they have completed a study programme?

Secondary education institutions use a grading system with a scale from 0 to 20.00. A mark of 10.00 or higher is a pass. Marks rarely exceed 18.00. The weight of a subject is mentioned on the final examination list.

Students can prove that they have completed secondary education with the following documents:

They receive both documents in Arabic.

Higher education institutions assess study results in the same way as secondary education institutions. See Secondary education study results.

Students can prove that they have completed a higher education study programme with the following documents:

  • a diploma; and
  • grade lists of all years.

They usually receive the diploma in Arabic. The grade lists can also be in French only.
