Secondary vocational education in the Philippines
Philippine secondary vocational education is called Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Technical Education and Skills Development (TESDA) supervises this type of education. The TESDA also checks and approves all TVET study programmes.
Please note: some higher education institutions also offer secondary vocational education. These study programmes must also be approved by TESDA.
Types of study programmes
The TESDA offers 4 types of TVET study programmes:
Admission to secondary vocational education
For admission to secondary vocational education, students need 1 of the following diplomas:
- the Junior High School Diploma;
- the High School Diploma (katibayan/katunayan). This is the diploma that was last awarded in 2015.
