The Future Role of COIL VE in Internationalisation at Home
Nuffic and The Hague University of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with COILectiVE NL, are hosting the COILectiVE NL Symposium from 25-27 November 2026. The symposium focuses on COIL VE and Internationalisation at Home. We invite educators, researchers and practitioners in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and higher education to submit proposals for presentations, workshops, and practice-based contributions, including those grounded in educational practice and/or research.

How can COIL VE activities be effectively implemented within and across curricula? We welcome contributions that explore alignment between learning goals, teaching approaches, and assessment, drawing on both research and practice.

Embedding and Scaling COIL VE in Institutions
How do you move from small-scale initiatives to sustainable implementation of COIL VE? Share insights into institutional strategies, support structures, or lessons learned from embedding COIL within programmes or curricula.

How does COIL VE help prepare students for an international and intercultural workplace? We invite contributions that connect curriculum-based learning experiences to skills, professional practice, and future career opportunities.

How can we build fair and meaningful collaborations between partners in different contexts? We invite perspectives on inclusion, reciprocity, and addressing power dynamics in COIL VE partnerships.

How can COIL VE bring together students from different disciplines and backgrounds? Share approaches that strengthen collaboration and intercultural learning in COIL VE projects.
Who can submit?
Proposals are welcomed from educators, researchers, practitioners, curriculum developers, and COIL VE coordinators in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and higher education, including those with experience in designing or implementing COIL VE initiatives.
Submission Types / Formats
Contributions should present insights from research, practice, or a combination of both, and demonstrate relevance to educational contexts.
Format descriptions
Presentations
- 40-minute interactive session: 20 minutes presentation + 20 minutes discussion/Q&A.
- Focus on one of the five symposium sub-themes. Contributions may draw on practice, research, or a combination.
- Encourage proposals that provide broader insights or transferable approaches beyond single case studies.
- Presenters prepare three discussion points to facilitate audience engagement.
- Intended for intermediate to expert level audiences.
- Optional opportunity to develop the work into a journal article (further information after submission deadline).
Workshops
- 80-minute interactive session engaging participants through hands-on activities, discussions, or collaborative exercises.
- Proposals must clearly connect to the overall symposium theme and emphasise participant involvement.
- Preference for submissions developed and delivered collaboratively by multiple institutions.
- Suitable for beginner to intermediate audiences.
Poster Stories & World Café
- Share a perspective, case study, or research related to one of the five symposium sub-themes.
- Posters will be grouped thematically to form a single interactive session.
- Each presenter gives a short (5-minute) poster presentation, followed by interactive World Café style discussions in small groups between presenters and participants, connecting shared themes across posters.
- The format is designed to foster engagement, knowledge exchange, and networking among participants.
- Suitable for beginner to intermediate audiences.
Submission Guidelines
- Proposals should be concise (maximum 250-300 words).
- Select the appropriate submission type and theme.
- Provide a clear title and description.
- Clearly indicate the educational context (e.g. course, programme, or institutional setting).
- Describe how the contribution relates to curriculum-based learning or implementation.
- Ensure your proposal aligns with one of the main themes of the symposium.
