Argentinian education institutions and study programmes
Below, we explain what types of educational institutions and study programmes there are in Argentina. We also explain how we check whether these are recognised. We check the recognition to make sure that the quality is sufficient. We give the necessary information per educational sector.
Secondary education | schools
Students follow their education at a secondary school. The schools can have different names, such as centro, escuela or instituto.
Checking the recognition of schools
Secondary schools need to be recognised by the Argentinian ministry of Education. You can check the recognition in the following way:
- Go to the website of the Argentinian Ministry of Education (in Spanish).
- Click on the link below ‘Descarga’. You will now see an overview of recognised education institutions.
- Press CTRL+F and then type the name of the school. You can type the name in full or in part. Check a few other details to make sure it is the correct school. For example, check:
- the street name (Domicilio);
- the postcode (Código Postal);
- the city (Localidad).
- Does the school appear in the overview? That means the school is recognised.
- Is the school not mentioned in the overview? That means the school is probably not recognised.
- Ask the Argentinian Ministry of Education if the school is recognised. You can find the contact details under ‘Contacto’ on the general website of the Ministry of Education (in Spanish).
Secondary education | diplomas
For secondary school diplomas, you should also check whether it is a nationally recognised diploma. This is the case when the diploma has been issued by the Argentinian Ministry of Education (Ministerio de Educación e Innovación).
Higher education | educational institutions
In Argentina higher education institutions must be recognised. There are 2 types of higher education institutions:
- universidades y institutos universitarios (universities and university institutions)
- institutos superiores no universitarios (non-university institutions for higher education).
Higher education | study programmes
In Argentina, higher education study programmes must be recognised. There are databases for university study programmes (these are study programmes from universidades and institutos universitarios) and databases for non-university study programmes (these are study programmes from Institutos superiores no universitarios).
Universidades and institutos universitarios
Universidades (universities) and institutos universitarios (university institutes) can offer vocational and research-oriented study programmes. You will find study programmes for various diplomas, such as a licenciada/o and a Magister.

Institutos superiores no universitarios
Institutos superiores no universitarios (non-university institutes for higher education) mainly offer vocational study programmes. For example, teacher training study programmes and study programmes for a técnico superior.
Checking the recognition of Institutos superiores no universitarios
- Open the website of the Argentinian Ministry of Education.
- Select the link under ‘Descarga.’ You will now see an overview of recognised higher education institutions.
- Select CTRL+F and type the name of the education institution. You can type the name in full or in part.
- Check extra information to make sure it is the correct education institution.
Check, for example:- the streetname (Domicilio);
- the postcode (Código Postal);
- the city (Localidad).
- Does the education institution appear in the overview? That means the education is recognised.
- Does the education institution not appear in the overview? You can consult 2 other registers:
- Is it regarding an education institution with a study programme for a Técnico superior? In that case, search the institution in the register of the Instituto Nacional de Educación Tecnológica (INET).
- Is it regarding an education institution with a teacher training study programme? In that case, search the institution in the register of the Instituto Nacional de Formación Docente (INFD).
- Does the education institution also not appear in either of those registers? That means the institution is probably not recognised.
- You can try inquiring at the Argentinian Ministry of Education. You can find contact details under ‘Contacto’ on the general website of the Ministry of Education.
Higher education | study programmes
In Argentina study programmes must be recognised. There are databases for university study programmes (this means study programmes from universidades and institutos universitarios) and databases for non-university study programmes (this means study programmes from Institutos superiores no universitarios).
Checking the recognition of university study programmes
- Open the Secretaria de Políticas Universitarias database.
- Under 'Título', type the field of study or diploma name. You can type the name in full or in part.
- Under 'Universidad', choose the educational institution of the study programme.
- Under 'Nivel académico', select the level of the study programme, if any, such as:
- 'Grado' for bachelor’s programmes;
- 'Posgrado' for master's programmes.
- Click on 'Buscar'.
- Does the study programme appear in the search results? Check what it says under 'Resolución que otorga reconocimiento oficial'.
- Is there a code starting with 'R.M.'? That means the study programme is recognised.
- The last 4 digits of the code show the year from which the study programme was recognised.
- If you click on 'Detalles', you will see extra information about the recognition.
- Is the study programme not mentioned in the search results? Try one of the databases of the Comisión Nacional de Evaluación y Acreditación Universitaria (CONEAU):
- CONEAU database for bachelor’s programmes;
- CONEAU database for master’s and PhD programmes.
- Is the programme not listed in either of these databases? That means the programme is probably not recognised.
Checking the recognition of non-university study programmes
For study programmes from Institutos superiores no universitarios, there are 2 databases:
- a database for recognised técnico superior programmes; and
- a database for recognised teacher training study programmes.
Técnico superior: checking the recognition
You can check the recognition of study programmes for a técnico superior in the following way:
- Open the database of the Instituto Nacional de Educación Tecnológica (INET).
- Under 'Listado de resultados', you will see an overview of recognised study programmes.
- In this overview, click on the name of the study programme. You will now get more information about the study programme.
- Is the educational institution of the study programme listed under 'Instituciones que ofrecen el título o certificación'? That means the study programme of this institution is recognised.
- Is the educational institution not listed? That means this educational institution’s study programme is probably not recognised.
Teacher training programmes: checking the recognition
You can check the recognition of teacher training programmes in the following way:
- Open the Instituto Nacional de Formación Docente (INFD) database.
- Tick the box for 'Oferta Nacional'.
- At 'Carrera', type in the field of study.
- At 'Nombre Institución', type in the name of the educational institution.
- Click on 'Buscar'.
- Does the study programme appear in the search results? That means this study programme is recognised.
- Is the study programme not listed in the search results? That means it is probably not recognised.
