Connecting the new IB Diploma Programme studies in language and literature courses to global and local contexts
By focusing on the oral assessment component of the new IB Diploma Programme studies in language and literature courses, we will explore how non-literary and literary texts can be made to interact. Not only in the light of global issues related to their context of production, but also with global issues arising from the context in which they are read and interpreted.
We also want to demonstrate how a study of texts that brings global and local contexts into the equation can deepen a student’s understanding of the way meaning is constructed in the texts studied. Furthermore we will discuss the different perspectives texts offer about topical global issues and of the awareness that these perspectives raise in them as global citizens.
