The Netherlands Education Support Offices (Nuffic Nesos) are located in countries that are strategically important for Dutch higher education: Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey and Vietnam.
They were set up with funding from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
Nuffic Neso offices focus on the following activities:
Positioning Dutch higher education
The offices represent the Dutch knowledge sector locally.
Quality of the international classroom
With their Study in Holland promotion the Nesos specifically aim to increase the quality and diversity of international students coming to the Netherlands. They work in close cooperation with the Study in Holland team in The Hague.
Holland Alumni activities
Using the Holland Alumni network and local alumni associations, the offices connect international talent to the Dutch labour market. They focus on growing economic sectors and sectors where there are shortages of skilled staff in the Netherlands.
Promoting outbound mobility
Specifically in South Africa, China, India, Russia and South Korea, the offices actively reach out to Dutch students. The students are encouraged to come and study in these countries or do an exchange with one of the local institutions. Information on study opportunities in the Neso countries is published at www.wilweg.nl.
Vocational education and training
Where there is enough capacity, the offices will facilitate cooperation in vocational education. This is primarily in Southeast Asia and Southern Africa, either as part of the Orange Knowledge Programme or bilateral agreements.
Nesos also support specific projects: programmes for which special funding has been made available, such as StuNed or EU SHARE in Indonesia.
Tailor-made services are available for the Dutch higher education sector, but these are not part of the main activities.
Extension Nesos financing
We are happy to announce we will receive extra funding to continue the activities of the Nesos for one year longer. This means the offices will remain fully operational until the end of 2021.
We are looking forward to continue working together with the Dutch higher education institutions on all projects to promote international cooperation in higher education. And thereby strengthen the position of the Netherlands’ knowledge economy.
