Nuffic Southeast Asia - About our office

We are Nuffic Southeast Asia: Our office in Jakarta supports knowledge diplomacy in Southeast Asia through networks, capacity-building programmes, and activities that enforce the quality of education, knowledge and skill development, trade and investment, and social and cultural relationships.

Founded in 1952, Nuffic is the Netherlands’ expertise centre for internationalising education – from primary and secondary education to vocational and higher education and research. We believe in global knowledge exchange, international cooperation, and the power of education to enhance socioeconomic development, equity, self-sustainability, prosperity, and peace.

We contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by making education and expertise equally accessible everywhere. To this end, we support organisations, governments, NGOs and individuals in developed and developing countries.

In 1996, the Netherlands Education Centre (NEC) was founded with a crucial role to play in promoting educational opportunities, fostering partnerships, and enhancing cultural understanding between the Netherlands in Indonesia.

In 2007, NEC officially changed its name to Nuffic Neso Indonesia, in line with the names of Nuffic Neso offices in other countries in the world.

Over the years Nuffic Neso Indonesia has adapted and expanded its role in facilitating educational collaboration between the two nations. Therefore, after 25 years of strengthening and connecting Dutch knowledge in Indonesia, we are proud and honoured to transform our office into Nuffic Southeast Asia, serving as a regional office to support the knowledge and education relationships between the Netherlands and Southeast Asia.

With our recently broadened responsibilities, our objective is to enhance our capabilities in connecting education, research, training, and knowledge throughout the Southeast Asia region, fostering a comprehensive approach to our mission.

• We design & manage: We identify opportunities and respond to them by designing concrete solutions. We set up sound management and monitoring systems for programme implementation.
• We promote & match: We advocate strong ties between knowledge institutions, public services, and the private sector. By matching local demands with Dutch expertise, we bridge knowledge gaps.
• We research & advise: We advise on capacity development, collaboration, and educational co-funding opportunities. Thanks to our local offices. Through our years of collaboration with different stakeholders, we can build on knowledge and data to foster excellent opportunities for building sustainable international knowledge.
