Summary

  • In the period 2005-2019, Belgium (Flanders) has taken over the top spot from the United Kingdom. Belgium is also the country with the largest absolute increase in the number of Dutch degree students registered in a tertiary education programme. In 2019, there were 5,110 Dutch students studying in Belgium compared to 1,589 in 2005: an increase of 222%.
  • Turkey moved up the most among the countries shown in this ranking. In 2019, 650 degree students from the Netherlands were registered in a tertiary education programme in Turkey, compared to 6 in 2005, which made this country move up 25 places to 5th place.
  • In the period 2005-2019, the top 3 always consisted of Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
