• Germany remained the most important country of origin throughout this period. This is also the country with the largest absolute increase in the number of international degree students in the Netherlands. In 2020, there were 24,569 students from Germany registered at a Dutch higher education institution, compared to 13,542 in 2006: an increase of 81%.  
  • Italy moved up the most in this period. In 2020, there were 13 times as many degree students from Italy than in 2006, which pushed this country up by 7 places to second place.  
  • Indonesia moved down the most in this period. Even though there were 530 more degree students from Indonesia in 2020 than in 2006, this country has fallen from 4th to 16th place.  
  • In absolute terms, the number of international degree students from all countries shown in this dashboard has increased in this period.
