Certificate of Secondary Education/Certificate of Completion grade 12

  • Dutch comparison: HAVO diploma (NLQF* 4/EQF** 4).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: general secondary education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education, if the applicant’s results comply with the chosen university’s standard requirements.

Certificate in Vocational Education

  • Dutch comparison: MBO diploma, qualification level 2 or 3 (NLQF 2 or 3/EQF 2 or 3).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: secondary vocational education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education, if the applicant’s results comply with the chosen university’s standard requirements.

Associate Degree

  • Dutch comparison: 2 years HBO or an associate degree (NLQF 5/EQF 5).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to the third year of a university bachelor, if obtained with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.

Diploma in Vocational/Technical Education

  • Dutch comparison: 2 years HBO (NLQF 5/EQF 5).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to the third year of a university bachelor, if obtained with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.

Bachelor

  • Dutch comparison: HBO bachelor or 2 years WO (NLQF 6/EQF 6).
  • Duration of schooling: 4 to 6 years.
  • Type of education: professional or research oriented.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to further study of the second cycle in higher education (university Graduate Diploma and Master).

Graduate Diploma

  • Dutch comparison: HBO master (NLQF 7/EQF 7).
  • Duration of schooling: 1 year.
  • Type of education: professional or research oriented.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to the university Master.

Master

  • Dutch comparison: WO master (NLQF 7/EQF 7).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: professional or research oriented.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to doctorate programmes.
