Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education

  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: upper secondary education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education.

Professional Certificate of Secondary Education A2

  • Dutch comparison: HAVO diploma for its general education component (NLQF 4/EQF 4).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: general and vocational secondary education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education.

Advanced Diploma in Higher Education

  • Dutch comparison: 3 years of higher professional education (NLQF 6/EQF 6).
  • Duration of schooling: 2.5 years.
  • Type of education: first cycle higher education.
  • Purpose of diploma: prepares students for the labour market, but also grants access to further education in higher educaction.

Bachelor with Honours

  • Dutch comparison: HBO or WO bachelor’s degree (NLQF 6/EQF 6).
  • Duration of schooling: 4 to 5 years.
  • Type of education: first cycle higher education.
  • Purpose of diploma: admission to master’s programmes, on condition that the student has obtained Secondary Class Upper Division.

Master (2 years)

  • Dutch comparison: HBO or WO master’s degree (NLQF 7/EQF 7).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: second cycle higher education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to PhD programmes.
