Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK)

  • Dutch comparison: MBO qualification level 2 or 3 diploma (NLQF* 2-3/EQF** 2-3).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: vocational secondary education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education, upon successful completion of entrance examinations.

Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA)

  • Dutch comparison: HAVO diploma (NLQF 4/EQF 4).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: secondary general education.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to higher education, upon successful completion of entrance examinations.

Diploma I (D I)

  • Dutch comparison: 1 year of HBO (NLQF 5/EQF 5).
  • Duration of schooling: 1 year.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.

Diploma II (DII)

  • Dutch comparison: 2 years of HBO (NLQF 5/EQF 5).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.

Diploma III (D III)

  • Dutch comparison: 3 years of HBO (NLQF 6/EQF 6).
  • Duration of schooling: 3 years.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.

Diploma IV (D IV)

  • Dutch comparison: HBO bachelor’s degree (NLQF 6/EQF 6).
  • Duration of schooling: 4 years.
  • Type of education: higher professional education.

Sarjana I (SI)

  • Dutch comparison: HBO bachelor’s degree or a WO bachelor’s degree (NLQF 6/EQF 6). NB The evaluation of this qualification has been changed compared to the version of 2015 (see pdf).
  • Duration of schooling: 4 years.
  • Type of education: professional or research oriented.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to further study of the second cycle in higher education (Sarjana II or Magister)

Sarjana II (SI)

  • Dutch comparison: WO master’s degree (NLQF 7/EQF 7).
  • Duration of schooling: 2 years.
  • Type of education: professional or research oriented.
  • Purpose of diploma: access to doctorate programmes (Sarjana III).
