Orange Knowledge Programme

Nuffic’s Orange Knowledge Programme is a € 185 MIO global development programme, funded by the Dutch government. It was kicked off mid-2017 for a period of 5 years and involves around 50 countries.

Our objective is to contribute to a society’s sustainable and inclusive development by strengthening the skills and knowledge of both individuals, groups of individuals and organisations.

Priority themes

The programme offers scholarships, training and institutional partnerships between education institutions in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and higher education, in fields related to the priority themes of the Dutch government:

  • Food and security
  • Water management
  • Sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • Security and the rule of law


The Orange Knowledge Programme consists of 4 components:

  1. partnership projects between TVET and higher education institutions locally and in the Netherlands;
  2. Tailor-Made Training (TMT) for groups;
  3. individual scholarships for mid-career professionals;
  4. alumni activities. 

Participating countries

There are 3 types of participating countries.

1. Full programme countries (approx. 70% of budget): all 4 programme components are available in these countries:

Bangladesh, Benin, Burundi, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Uganda, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Tanzania, Vietnam and South Africa

2. Compact + programme countries (approx. 20% of budget): in these countries we will offer individual scholarships, Tailor-Made Training (TMT) and TMT+, and alumni activities:

Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Guatemala, Guinea, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Somalia, Southern Sudan and Zambia.

3. Compact programme countries (approx. 10% of budget): in these countries we will provide individual scholarships, Tailor-Made Training (with the exception of TMT+) and alumni activities:

Albania, Armenia, Bhutan, Bolivia, Cambodia, Cuba, Philippines, Georgia, India, Macedonia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Peru, Sri Lanka, Surinam, Thailand and Zimbabwe.
