Nuffic phases out most activities outside Europe after the Orange Knowledge Programme ends

The Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) will end in December 2024. Nuffic ran this programme, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since 2017. Despite constructive talks with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is no prospect of new, significant funding for development cooperation from the Dutch government.

As a result, Nuffic has had to decide to close the offices in Benin, Ethiopia, Jordan, Lebanon and South Africa and reorganise the Global department in The Hague as of January 1, 2025. This will also end our commitment to new, European-funded, international development cooperation programmes.

Titia Bredée, Director-General of Nuffic: “Nuffic has been involved in education and capacity building projects in low- and middle- income countries since its founding more than 70 years ago. We truly regret having to say goodbye to our valued colleagues and this valuable work that is so intertwined with Nuffic. We would like to thank all involved colleagues and partners for their commitment, dedication and fine cooperation over the past years. We are proud of what we have achieved together in the world.”

Nuffic Southeast Asia remains open

From 2025, we will continue to work on the implementation of already ongoing projects and programmes. To this end, a compact programme support team will continue to operate from the The Hague office. Our regional office in Southeast Asia, which is involved in many of these ongoing programmes, will remain open.

Our statutory tasks and other work in the Netherlands and Europe, including in the areas of diploma accreditation, student mobility and the Erasmus+ programme, will continue to be carried out unabated. We also remain committed to our mission: to support internationalisation in all sectors of education.
