Qualification framework

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)

In Scotland, all qualifications form part of a separate national framework known as the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

The SCQF has 12 levels. Below is an overview of the classification of these 12 levels:

  • Level 1- 5: National Qualifications 1- 5.
  • Level 6: Highers
  • Level 7: Higher National Certificate and the Advanced Highers
  • Level 8: Higher National Diploma
  • Level 9: Ordinary Bachelors
  • Level 10: Honours Bachelors
  • Level 11: Masters
  • Level 12: Doctorate
