Accreditation and quality assurance
When evaluating Turkish higher education diplomas, we check the accreditation of the institution.
Accreditation of the institution
The accreditation of state universities and non-profit foundation universities is the responsibility of the Council for Higher Education (YÖK):
- an overview of accredited universities (in Turkish); and
- an overview of other accredited higher education institutions (in English).
Quality assurance
In May 2014 the Yükseköğretim Kalite Kurulu (YÖKAK), or in English, the Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC), was established for the renewal and the recognition of higher education in Turkey.
As of 2020, YÖKAK implements an Institutional Accreditation Programme (IAP). Through the IAP, institutions may be accredited for 2 or 5 years. Quality is monitored through both self-evaluation and external checks. Alternatively, institutions may choose to obtain accreditation for individual degree programmes. This is not mandatory.
