• Country: Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, اِسلامی جمہوریہ پاكِستان (Islami Jumhuriyah Pakistan). Pakistan used to be part of India, but the country has been independent since 1947.   • Central coordination: Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MOFEPT).
  • Secondary education: Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).

  • Higher education: Higher Education Commission (HEC).
  • Compulsory education: ages 5-16.
  • Language of instruction: Urdu, English and other languages, such as Pashto, Punjabi and Sindhi.
  • School-leaving exams for secondary education: students take exams at the end of lower secondary education (grade 10) and at the end of upper secondary education (grade 12). Usually the exams are in April or May.
  • Academic year: September to June. An academic year is divided into 2 semesters of 16 to 18 weeks.
