Accredited higher education institutions

You can find a list from 2021 of all accredited higher education institutions on the website of the Chinese Ministry of Education (in Chinese only). The programmes of these institutions are accredited.

You can find an English overview of accredited institutions on the English website of the Ministry of Education, however this only concerns institutions that exclusively offer English-language programmes.

First Class Universities and First Discipline Universities

On the website of the Chinese Ministry of Education you can consult a database (Chinese language) of all recognised higher education institutions plus the designation First Class University and First Discipline University.

Below you will find all universities that belong to the First Class Universities. You can request the translated list of First Discipline Universities via our contact form.

First Class Universities

The list of First Class Universities consists of 42 universities. These are divided into 2 categories:

category A with 36 institutions;
category B with 6 institutions.

The category B institutions have a slightly lower status than the category A settings. The intention is for institutions falling under category B to catch up to reach category A.
