Project description

Both the Institute of Governance Studies (IGS) of BRAC University and the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) offer training and capacity building programme for civil servants.

A coalition between the two institutions will fortify civil administration training delivery and will widen the training scope. It will also be a unique example of public-private sector collaboration.

This project will help design and offer competency development through short courses and executive courses. Currently, both IGS and BPATC lack the capacity to offer such gender-sensitive and specialised labour market needs-based courses .

The Bangladesh government is in the process of drafting its first Civil Service Act. A draft version was recently made available on the website of the Ministry of Establishment (now called Ministry of Public Administration) seeking public opinion and advice.

This capacity development initiative under the NICHE programme is rightly timed. The project is in line with the broader aims of the government to foster and develop a competent civil service for the country.
