Objectives
- better access to justice and improved quality and independence of jurisdiction;
- improved conflict resolution and conflict prevention;
- reconciliation in Rwanda and in the region.
Present status
- lawyer-to-population ratio of 1/36000;
- level of legal assistance to women as described in Haguruka report of activities 2007.
Medium Term Outcome(s) – 4 years
- increase in the number of qualified graduates within target sectors of the judiciary;
- improved HEI expertise, consultancy and outreach to the professional sector and the community;
- attention to the differential legal needs of women and men is included in the educational, expertise and outreach activities of law HE institutions;
- higher education and expertise/consultancy offer of HEI fully responsive to the needs of the judiciary.
Longer Term Outcome(s) – 8 years
- improved quality and efficiency of graduates and professionals within the judiciary;
- improvement of women’s access to and benefits of legal rights and protection;
- improved employability and efficiency of law graduates.
