The capacity to produce relevant and accurate statistics, which are made available timely to policymakers and the public is essential to formulate informed policies and to monitor their implementation and impact in Indonesia.
It is for this reason that the Netherlands contributes to World Bank efforts to improve the national statistics system of Indonesia (with a focus on data needed for policy making towards poverty alleviation).
Apart from their ongoing activities to strengthen the national bureau of statistics (BPS) an US $ 83 million World Bank loan for 2011-2014 is being prepared. This loan will help facilitate a reform of the statistics agency (BPS).
The World Bank reform programme does not include projects aimed at improving the quality of education and training of the statistical training agency and this could be provided through the NICHE programme.
In addition, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) has been asked to support BPS with the introduction of Blaise, a computer-assisted interviewing (CAI) system and survey processing tool.
