Logistics

Logistics is a highly important field for the socio-economic development of Indonesia. The NICHE programme will help improve education and training capacity in logistics.
Competitive trade logistics is essential to trade and economic development and involves an efficient distribution of goods throughout the country. This is a challenging task in the Indonesian archipelago which is made of over seventeen thousand islands.
A good logistics network allows efficient movement of goods from producer to consumer. It involves warehousing, trucking, shipping, transporting goods by railway or air, provision of services by the private and public sector to facilitate the transport of goods, and, finally, the movement of goods through ports to international markets.
A multi-sectoral industry
Logistics is a multi-sectoral industry involving, among other things, transport infrastructure and operations, trade and transport laws and regulations, customs procedures and financial aspects.
Backed up by a draft logistical blueprint, the Ministry of Trade and the private sector are clamouring for more and better-qualified professionals to meet the sector's demand. Studies have revealed the serious lack of professionals who understand the importance of logistics in creating a favourable and attractive business climate.
The Netherlands contributes to the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Trade & Investment Climate (MDFTIC) to support policymaking and the recognition of logistics as a key to improve competitiveness.
