Post-secondary education in marginalized areas
16 mrt 2010
Below is a schematic overview of the objectives and outcomes of NICHE projects focusing on post-secondary education in marginalized areas in Colombia. This overview is an integral part of the Programme Outline as Annex 2.
Objectives
Improved quantity and quality of the post-secondary educational offering in marginalised areas, in terms of quality, pertinence, gender and relevance for the job market.
Benchmark of the present status
- There is limited and poor quality availability of post-secondary educational programmes in marginalized areas, with no specific attention paid to gender in teaching (study plans, teaching practice) and mostly failing to meet the needs of the job market.
- Women have limited access to social, political and economic assets in these areas.
- Post-secondary educational institutions are weak and have unequal gender relations.
Medium Term outcomes (4 years)
- The selected Regional Centres of Higher Education (CERES) and Universities have strengthened in terms of management, academic, curricular and teaching quality, pertinence and gender approach.
- The balance between men and women in senior management positions at the CERES and Universities has improved.
- Availability of study programmes that are relevant to the job market and regional development (emphasis on technical and technological programmes).
Longer Term outcomes (8 years)
- Graduates from strengthened post-secondary educational organisations work in their own regions thus contributing to regional development.
- Women have better access to social, political and economic assets in the region.
