Bsc. Physiotherapy at the European School of Physiotherapy (ESP), Hogeschool van Amsterdam.

My journey into the world of physiotherapy began in August 2007, when I started the three-year international physiotherapy programme at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. This was immediately after my first bachelor’s degree in computer science which I obtained in Nigeria.

A dream coming true

It had always been my dream to become a physiotherapist in order to help people, especially my mother who suffers from chronic back pain. I chose the Netherlands and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam to pursue this dream because Amsterdam is a melting pot of cultures and the hub of cultural activities and sporting events.

International environment

The European School of Physiotherapy offers one of the most challenging and high standard study programmes in Europe. The ESP programme provides an international atmosphere with a rich cultural diversity. I have classmates from all over the world, which is fun and challenging when working in groups.

Needless to say, the teachers are interested in your progress and are very professional. These aspects make it worthwhile to study in the Netherlands.

Overcoming financial hurdles

I am enjoying my stay in Amsterdam and the city is very captivating. Dutch life (getting used to the weather, riding bikes everywhere you go, having sandwiches for lunch) and people are wonderful. I enjoy my study but the challenge to meet the financial demands of the school was becoming a great hurdle.

I was awarded an HSP scholarship in 2009. I consider this scholarship as a miracle, because it has enabled me to remove the financial hurdle and because it is giving me the opportunity to achieve my lifelong dream of becoming a physiotherapist. I therefore look forward to giving back to this society in every possible way.
