New round of Huygens Scholarship Programme applications

18 May 2010

The new Huygens Scholarship Programme application period has closed. This year saw yet another rise in the number of applications.

More than 330 applications were submitted by students who want to study abroad and around 1,750 applications by international students who want to study in the Netherlands. On 1 May 2010 it was announced which students are eligible for this prestigious scholarship.

Abbreviation dropped

The programme was abbreviated to ‘HSP’ in the past few years. The decision has now been taken to drop this abbreviation, as it removed the emphasis on the programme's namesake: Christiaan Huygens. From now on, the scholarship programme for both incoming and outgoing students will be known as the Huygens Scholarship Programme.

The new communication materials and the new logo too will place a clearer focus on the name of Christiaan Huygens, the Dutch seventeenth century scientist who symbolizes the programme.

Research

Although the number of applications exceeds the number of available scholarships each year, Nuffic aims to increase the number of high-quality applications. We are currently researching how this can be achieved.

New chairperson

Trude Maas-de Brouwer has taken over the chairmanship of the assessment committee from Winnie Sorgdrager, who left the Huygens Scholarship Programme after two years.
