Application procedure for TWVs, residence permits and entry visas

18 May 2010

Your internship provider (your employer) determines the appropriate application procedure based on whether you need a residence permit and/or entry visa.

Combined application for Authorization for Temporary Stay and TWV

If you need an Authorization for Temporary Stay (Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf, MVV), your employer can submit a combined MVV/TWV application via Digitaal Loket Arbeidsmigratie. The application will then be assessed jointly by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) and UWV WERKbedrijf, and your employer will receive a combined decision. This procedure takes around five weeks.

Separate applications for residence permit and TWV

If you do not need an MVV, you employer has to submit separate applications for a residence permit and a TWV. The residence permit application must be submitted to the IND, the TWV application to UWV WERKbedrijf.

Since there are two separate applications, the processing time is somewhat longer. The TWV application will take around five weeks; the residence permit application will take two to four weeks.

Internships of less than 90 days

If your internship is for a period of less than 90 days, your employer follows the procedure described above for requesting a TWV. If you need a short stay visa (Visum Kort Verblijf, VKV) due to your nationality, you will have to apply for this document yourself from the Dutch representative in your country of origin or of which you are a legal resident.

Requisite documents

In the case of TWV requests in connection with an internship, a number of additional documents must be included with the application. These documents include a statement declaring that the internship forms an essential part of your study programme and a detailed internship plan. The application form lists all required documentation.
