Diploma evaluation
14 Dec 2009
Nuffic acts as the Dutch National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) for the evaluation of foreign diplomas in higher and general secondary level education in the Netherlands.
Due to globalization, the number of people coming to the Netherlands with foreign diplomas continues to increase. Nuffic currently evaluates around 10,000 diplomas a year.
Diploma recognition for admission to higher education
When you come to Holland to study, your institution may want to have your diploma compared to the Dutch system to see if you meet all the admission requirements. Recognized higher education institutions can have your diplomas evaluated by Nuffic, free of charge. Note that the evaluation by Nuffic serves only as an advice to institutions. The final decision for admission is taken by the institutions themselves.
Nuffic has a number of in-house experts who are specialized in the education systems of a number of countries. It is also a member of a variety of national and international networks in the field of higher education and it keeps an extensive archive of diplomas and documents. Credentials are evaluated and telephone advice is given on request.
How does it work?
Where possible, a foreign diploma is compared to a Dutch diploma. If this is not possible because your prior study programme is unique, a comparable level is indicated. In addition, individual courses or modules that were taken, the study load and the academic level of the programme are taken into account.
As well as evaluating the diploma, Nuffic can also determine whether a programme or educational institution is officially recognized and assesses the authenticity of diplomas.
