The end of your stay

At the end of the year, your residence permit for the purpose of ‘highly educated migrant seeking employment’ cannot be extended. This means that you must apply for a change of purpose, or leave the country.
Highly skilled migrant
If you succeed in finding a job as a highly skilled migrant, your employer will provide you with all the necessary forms. A fee of €331 applies.
Change to another purpose of stay
You may also apply for a change to another purpose of stay, such as ‘labour migrant’ or ‘stay with partner’, provided that you meet the criteria for that particular purpose of stay. The fees for the procedure vary, depending on the purpose. You can check the IND website for the current fees.
