MINT Questionnaire and Reports

The questionnaire

The questionnaire is modeled on existing tools and is based on Jane Knight’s definition of internationalization:

‘The process of integrating an international, intercultural, or global dimension into the purpose, functions or delivery of postsecondary education.’

Further internationalization indicators identified through a literature survey (see ‘Development of MINT’, 'Literature') were also used to develop the questionnaire. The definition and the preliminary research were used to develop a framework that defines the relationship between internationalization policy and activities. MINT thus focuses on:

  • internationalization objectives and policies
  • internationalization activities
  • facilities
  • quality assurance
  • indicators

MINT is composed of a number of optional sections (building blocks). The questionnaire adapts itself to specific institutional circumstances based on the responses given to each successive question. Being a self-evaluation tool, there are only a handful of general questions that all users have to answer.

These questions form the basis for a report that allows the tool to be adjusted to the policy aims of individual study programmes and institutions. This enables programmes and institutions to focus on international elements that are particularly relevant in their context.

Reports

The MINT self-evaluation report gives an overall picture of an institution’s internationalization policy, activities and supporting services. It also shows how these are embedded in the quality cycle.

In addition to the self-evaluation report, the tool also provides a management summary, a comparison report and a benchmark report:

  • The management summary contains a selection of the self evaluation report to facilitate the presentation of the results of MINT of an institution or a programme.
  • The comparison report allows you to compare your data with other programmes or units (internal and external) of your choice. Comparison reports are only available after both partners have given permission.
  • The benchmark report will give a comparison of your data with the average data of similar programmes or units. The benchmark will become available when there is a sufficient number of benchmark partners as to guarantee unanimity.
