To provide a basis for developing MINT, Nuffic first compiled an overview of existing national and international tools.
This list includes a number of interesting examples, such as EFQM and the model developed by the Groene Kennis Coƶperatie, which is based on spider webs.

A joint international effort
MINT also refers to indicator lists set up by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) in Germany and the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU). These two institutes have teamed up with four other organizations, including Nuffic, to create a European consortium that will develop Indicators for Mapping and Profiling Internationalization.
The right indicators
The list of existing tools shows that there is a wide range of possible indicators. Choosing appropriate indicators was thus paramount to creating a useful tool. And this is exactly what we did for MINT.
