Indicators for Mapping and Profiling Internationalization (IMPI)
30 Sep 2010
Europe-wide toolkit
Six European, the CHE, CampusFrance, SIU, ACA, Perspektywy and Nuffic, coordinated in forming a project group in the autumn of 2008 for a project entitled ‘Indicators for Mapping and Profiling Internationalization’ (IMPI). The project aims to create a Europe-wide toolkit that institutions can use to measure their level of internationalization. This project is closely related to Nuffic’s MINT tool. In IMPI the indicators that are already being used in MINT will be complemented with indicators from projects in other countries.
Involvement higher education institutions
Both national organisations and higher education institutions from ten different countries will participate in the project. The products of the project will be tested by over fifteen individual higher education institutions, the DAAD and three networks (Coimbra Group and ACUP). Interested higher education institutions have been invited to join the second testing round in which they will have the opportunity to benchmark themselves against their peers. The involvement of higher education institutions will ensure that the tool has a practical application.
Timeline and activities
The project was launched on 1 October 2009 and will run for three years until 30 September 2012. Nuffic is represented by Rosa Becker and Adinda van Gaalen.
In the first half of 2010 Nuffic led the 'research work package' in which a desk research on measuring tools was executed and published.
Two workshops for higher education institutions have taken place, one in April (Berlin) and one in September (Nantes). The third and last workshop in this first benchmarking round will take place in February 2011 at the Nuffic office in The Hague.
In May 2011 other higher education institutions will have the opportunity to participate in benchmarking workshops to test the tool.
On 17 and 18 September 2010 presentations on IMPI were held at the EAIE conference in Nantes (sessions 11.04 and 11.14).
