You wish to practise your profession in the Netherlands but obtained your degree abroad. In some cases, you will have to complete a recognition procedure. Answer the following question to determine which situation applies to you.
Step 1: list of regulated professionals
Is my profession on the list of regulated professions?
- No: you have free access to the labour market. A credential evaluation may be useful for you. For this reason, contact the Information Centre for Credential Evaluation (IcDW) in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands.
- Yes: proceed to step 2. Report to the relevant competent authority.
Step 2: regulated professions
Regulated professions may only be practised with the permission of a competent authority. Access is regulated by law.
A competent authority has been designated for each regulated profession. This authority determines whether you may practise the profession concerned in the Netherlands. Examples of regulated professions are those of nurse, teacher and driving instructor. Regulated professions differ per country in terms of number and type.
