Professional recognition

Do you have a Dutch passport and want to work in another EU country? Or do you have a foreign passport and want to work in the Netherlands? If so, it is important for you to be aware that European agreements are in place concerning the mutual recognition of diplomas that grant access to regulated (protected) professions.

Directive 2005/36/EC

European Directive 2005/36/EC is of great importance with respect to professional recognition. This directive specifies professions to which legal requirements apply, such as the professions of nurse and driving instructor. The directive’s purpose is to promote mobility. In practice, however, this is not always easy.

Each step of the professional recognition process is presented in a flow chart.
