Support to relevance and quality of service delivery of universities in Eastern Indonesia
15 Jun 2010
Through UNDP, the Netherlands contributes to the improvement of the socio-economic situation of Papua, the largest province of Indonesia, together with Indonesian authorities to speed up the realization of the MDGs.
For that reason the Netherlands plays a catalyst role in funding the “People-centered Development Programme” (PDP) to strengthen government and civil society capacities. The programme is coordinated by Bappenas and implemented by Bappeda.
NICHE will build on experiences with ongoing Nuffic-funded NPT projects and NFP Multi Year Agreements.
NICHE is expected to focus on improving the role of universities in Papua in building effective local service delivery, and to develop relevant study programmes to prepare graduates for future (self) employment to create a livelihood for local communities, taking into account Papua's social and economic realities.
