Water management and sanitation

03 Jun 2010

The Netherlands is engaged in long-term cooperation with Indonesia in support of MDG7 on drinking water supply and sanitation (WSS).

In addition, it provides support to Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). The Netherlands is a major donor in the water sector as Dutch experts and institutions have niche knowledge to contribute.

Dutch financial and non financial support is laid down in a 4-party MoU between the Indonesian Ministries of Public Works and the Environment and the Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public works and Water Management (V&W) and the Ministry of Housing, Spatial planning and the Environment (VROM).

There are a number of ongoing water management programmes of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, which receive Dutch funding. In this context, NICHE is targeting the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works as a potential partner. In particular its training and education agency which provides professional competencies for both the IWRM and the WSS sub-sectors.
