Objectives

Gender sensitive education and skills in the fields of emerging farmers, extension services are improved. Educational systems are strengthened, in both public and private colleges, and Agriculture Training Institutes (ATIs) with stronger ties to the labour market.
 

Present status

The agriculture sector faces challenges with regard to adequate skills development in agricultural education, service delivery in extension and land reform, appropriate training programmes for emerging farmers.
 

Medium Term outcome(s) - 4 years

  • Higher Education and Further Education and Training institutions have improved their curricula.
  • Management and staff performance lead to higher quality teaching programmes.
  • Capacity for delivering extension services has improved.
  • Qualitative and quantitative output of skilled black (female) farmers has increased. 

Longer term outcome(s) - 8 years

An increase of appropriately skilled black farmers and trained specialists, becoming integrated in commercial activities in the South African agriculture sector.
