NHTV offers academic bachelor

18 Jun 2009

From September this year, NHTV Breda will be the first university of applied sciences to offer an independent academic bachelor's programme.

It is a programme leading to a bachelor's degree in International Leisure Sciences. For years now, NHTV has attracted many international students and therefore the programme will be offered entirely in the English language.

International Leisure Sciences will be academic and theoretical in nature and focus on multiple disciplines. This sets the programme aside from the existing higher professional education programme International Leisure Management.

The academic bachelor’s programme is in fact being transferred from the University of Tilburg, and will be offered by NHTV in a slightly different form.

Exchange

During the third year students will be encouraged to take minor courses at universities abroad. Conversely, the intention is to attract a large number of international students to the programme.

Position in Europe

NHTV believes this step will further strengthen its position in Europe. In the rest of the European Union there is no clear differentiation between higher professional education institutions and academic higher education institutions.

Master's

After obtaining the bachelor's in International Leisure Sciences students can transfer to a master's programme at a research university. Possible options are the universities of Tilburg or Wageningen, but also for instance the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
