In this issue of our quarterly e-Newsletter we give you an overview of the latest developments and updates on the NFP, NPT and NICHE programmes.

Dear readers,

In our ongoing efforts to succesfully address cross-cutting themes in NICHE we are organising a regional seminar for requesting organisations in Africa in December. The seminar, which will be held in Rwanda, will focus on the two main cross-cutting themes:

  • gender;
  • labour market needs.

Flyers

We are also in the process of publishing four short flyers about gender, TVET, Integrated Capacity Development (ICD) and learning organisations and their importance in NICHE.

Women's Worlds

Our gender taskforce was invited to attend the triennial Women's Worlds conference and present a paper on our experiences with mainstreaming gender in capacity building programmes.

Zambia

In this issue we take a closer look at an ongoing NICHE project at Mulungushi University, Zambia, which has ambitious plans with regard to quality and self funding.

First projects in Egypt

The first three NICHE projects in Egypt are about to start. One project, which focuses on strengthening the regional training centre for river transport, will be officially launched during the Dutch-Egyptian trade week from 23-27 October.

Outcome NFP deadline 1 May

We received a lot of good applications for the 1 May NFP application round. As usual, however, the number of applications largely exceeded the number of available fellowships. This application round it was particularly difficult to obtain a fellowship due to the budget cuts that have recently been imposed. We were able to award 41 fellowships for master's degree programmes and 206 fellowships for short courses.

I hope you enjoy the read.

Best regards,

Joep Houterman
Director Programme Management
