The StuNed Road Show

06 Mar 2009

The road show, organized annually by Neso Indonesia’s scholarship section, aims to promote the StuNed scholarship programme in 25 cities outside Java Island, from Aceh to Papua.

The event is specifically designed to reach potential scholarship recipients working as government officers, non-profit organization staff, journalists and lecturers outside Java.

The road show features presentations on Study in Holland in general and the StuNed scholarship programme in particular, and is given at state universities and local government offices. The presentations give potential candidates the opportunity to get information on applying to Dutch universities and the StuNed programme. Press meetings and alumni dinners with former StuNed awardees are organized around the event.

Responses to the road show among local universities and press were generally very positive, with a total attendance of more than 2000 people and about 80 members of the press.

Main obstacles

One of the main obstacles faced by Neso Indonesia in attracting good candidates from outside Java is the lack of English proficiency skills. In most cities outside Java it is quite difficult to find good English-language training programmes, and even more difficult to find ITP, TOEFL or IELTS test providers. This is a challenge also faced by scholarship providers from other countries.

In 2008, for the first time, two Dutch universities (HAN Nijmegen University and the University of Groningen) joined Nuffic-Neso road show staff in a number of cities. Participation in the StuNed road show is open to all Dutch universities.
