Indonesian Ministry of Education and Neso Indonesia Join Forces in Twinning Programme

06 Mar 2009

On 30 October 2008 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-financing a twinning programme in Realistic Math Education was signed.

The programme was signed by Mr Muchlas Samedi, Director of Human Resources at the Directorate-General of Higher Education, and Marrik Bellen, Nuffic-Neso Indonesia Director, and witnessed by the Director-General of Higher Education Mr Fasli Jalal.

Milestone

The MoU represents a milestone, given that it is the first of its kind with the Indonesian Ministry of Education. The StuNed scholarship programme has already set up a number of co-financing schemes with different Indonesian Ministries since 2004.

This MoU, developed by the Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) and Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) in collaboration with Utrecht University, has been designed to support a Master’s level twinning programme in the field of Realistic Math Education.

Spin-off

The Dutch-Indonesian alliance was initiated by the Indonesian Realistic Math Education (PMRI) team, lead by Prof. Robert Sembiring of the Institute of Technology in Bandung (ITB). It is a spin-off of an existing partnership between the two countries in the field of Realistic Mathematics, developed within the framework of the NPT programme (Netherlands Programme for the Institutional Strengthening of Post-secondary Education and Training) on Realistic Mathematics.
