Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs visits Nuffic Neso Indonesia

On 13 November, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven visited the Nuffic Neso Indonesia branch office at the University of Surabaya.

At the Nuffic Neso office the Dutch Minister delivered a Studium General lecture on ‘The global energy market and its challenges'. Towards a secure and sustainable energy supply’. The visit was part of her tour through Indonesia as head of the Dutch Trade Mission.

Several international education representatives have set up offices in the International Village at the University of Surbaya. The Nuffic Neso branch office was established in 2000. 
 

Trends and developments

During the minister’s brief visit, Nuffic Neso Indonesia Director Marrik Bellen and two Surabaya staff members, Helen Afriliyah and Paulina Susetya, informed Ms Van der Hoeven about trends and developments in Indonesian higher education, specifically those in the East Java area.

As the former Minister of Education, Ms Van der Hoeven expressed her keen interest in education issues, and stated the view that investing in human capital through education is a prerequisite for national development.
