NANC Alumni Gathering

25 Feb 2010

On 18 September 2008 the Netherlands Alumni Network in China (NANC) organized an alumni gathering in Beijing, which was hosted at the Dutch Embassy under the motto ‘welcome to study in China’.

Among the guests were a group of 25 Dutch students - 21 from Leiden University and four from Hogeschool Zuyd - who are in China with Nuffic funding. All NANC alumni from these two institutes were also warmly invited to attend the gathering.

Also present were several Chinese students who have received their Neso Certificates and will go to the Netherlands to study in January 2009, a group of Dutch students currently doing internships in Beijing and Chinese students who have completed a period of study abroad in Holland.

Sharing experiences

The event allowed students and alumni to share their experiences of and tips about living and working in the two countries with each other.

A number of briefing events have been arranged during the last few years with the purpose of giving exchange students arriving in China all the helpful and practical information they might need.

The event

Deputy Ambassador Mr Gerard Steeghs opened the event with a speech in which he expressed his pride in these students and assured them of the embassy’s support.

Neso China Director Mr Jacques van Vliet welcomed all the new students and talked about the role of Neso China and of the ongoing Study in China and Wilweg campaigns. He wished the Dutch students a very memorable time in China and the Chinese students a priceless experience in the Netherlands.

Not only did the gathering provide a good platform for communication, it also offered students an excellent opportunity to expand their personal networks. Since the event, 21 students have registered for NANC membership.
