Nuffic supports gender action plan NAP 1325
12 Dec 2011
Nuffic will be one of signatories of the Dutch National Action Plan 1325, which will be officially launched in Leiden on 19 December 2011. NAP 1325 focuses on female leadership and political participation of women in conflict and reconstruction situations.
Jointly developed, broadly supported
The new Dutch NAP 1325 (2012-2015) has been developed by a broad range of organisations, including various ministries, knowledge centres and 30 civil society organisations, ranging from large international NGOs to small migrant, women’s and peace organisations.
An innovative and unique initiative
The joint development and execution of the Dutch NAP 1325, makes it innovative and unique in its kind. The fact that so many different organisations and organisations are involved makes it the most broadly supported NAP worldwide.
The signatories of NAP 1325 include many organisations that are closely connected to the target group: women in fragile states, (post) conflict areas and transition countries.
Focus countries
In the focus countries of the previous NAP (2008-2011) good contacts have been established. That is why new joint efforts will concentrate on:
- Afghanistan
- Burundi
- Colombia
- the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
- Sudan
- the Republic of South Sudan
MENA in the picture
Due to the recent political revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the MENA region has also been earmarked as a focus region.
Nuffic and NAP 1325
Through its capacity building programmes NFP, NPT and NICHE, Nuffic addresses gender equality in projects in a number of NAP focus countries.
Where possible, Nuffic will forge strategic alliances with other NAP signatories and add value to its projects by promoting women participation in training opportunities, female leadership and gender research.
