Parties involved
Multiple parties play a key role in the Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) during various stages of the process. They are: the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Dutch embassies and consulates, Nuffic and the participating Dutch institutions.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds the NFP programme from its development cooperation budget and determines the programme’s policy framework.
Dutch embassies and consulates
The Dutch embassies and consulates assess all scholarship applications for both short-term courses and master's degree and PhD programmes. They may also issue recommendations concerning the further processing of applications.
Assessments are conducted on the basis of NFP criteria, but may also factor in country-specific priorities depending on the local situation.
Nuffic
Nuffic is responsible for administering the NFP programmes. Nuffic supervises the selection of scholarship students for short courses and master’s degree and PhD programmes. Nuffic also prepares lists of the various master's programme and short courses for which NFP scholarships are available.
In addition, Nuffic selects candidates for PhD scholarships and assesses applications for refresher courses and for financing or co-financing other NFP alumni activities.
Dutch institutions
The Dutch institutions taking part in the NFP are higher education institutions or other Dutch organisations specialising in the transfer of knowledge and skills at post-secondary level.
Participation in the NFP is limited to Dutch institutions that have undergone assessment in terms of their ability to host and train students or employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The institutions themselves assess whether candidates have sufficient prior education to be granted admission to a specific programme or course. They administer the NFP scholarships for each of the four sub-programmes.
They are also required to make all the necessary arrangements for the scholarship student’s arrival and provide the required supervision. Scholarship students should contact the relevant Dutch institutions regarding any issues or any questions they may have concerning their NFP scholarship.
