National gender action plan kicks off
The second Dutch National Action Plan 1325 (NAP 1325-II) kicked off on 21 February 2012. Nuffic is one of the 40 signatories of the four-year plan, which aims to improve the political position of women in conflict zones in Afghanistan, Burundi, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sudan, the Republic of South Sudan and the MENA region.
Tilburg University welcomes Ethiopian PhD students
In February a group of twenty Ethiopian students arrived in Tilburg at the Development Research Institute (IVO), as part of a 2.8 million NICHE project developed by Addis Ababa University College of Commerce and several other Ethiopian higher education institutions. The project aims to assist the Ethiopian universities in building research capacity in Business and Economics.

Nuffic's recognition department: a role model for Japan?
The Japanese Ministry of Education has asked the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE) to set up a national recognition information centre, which does not yet exist in Japan. A small delegation of the NIAD-UE visited Nuffic in February, to discuss the ins and outs of running such a centre.
