Trends and developments in Turkish higher education

In the report the current higher education of Turkey is analysed. The main topics are recent developments in the Turkish education system, the capacity of Turkish universities and the relationship between the secondary education and the university entrance exam system.

Special attention is paid to cooperation in higher education between Turkish and Dutch higher education institutions. The report provides an in-depth insight into the Turkish higher education system, which can be used by Dutch higher education institutions that are interested the Turkish education market.

Increasing education investment

An important trend is the substantial growth in public investment in education; the 2011 budget of the Turkish Ministry of National Education was three and half times larger than the 2002 budget. The government will also invest more into the internationalisation of the higher education system and international cooperation is going to be encouraged even more.

This will contribute to the already numerous different types of agreements between Turkish and Dutch higher education institutions (464 in 2012).

NIHA as intermediary

NIHA aims to contribute to the internationalisation of higher and vocational education in the Netherlands with regards to Turkey, by acting as effective promoter and intermediary. The main target groups of NIHA are the higher education institutions in the Netherlands and Turkey that would like to establish structural cooperation, as well as other parties in the field of higher education in both countries.
