A comprehensive set of indicators to help higher education institutions profile and self-assess their degree of internationalisation, that is the main outcome of the European project Indicators for Mapping and Profiling internationalisation (IMPI).

A toolbox is available for use by any higher education institution through the IMPI website.

Indicators of internationalisation

The IMPI toolbox contains several hundred indicators. As there is no such thing as a ‘standard for internationalisation’, the list is meant to provide food for thought on internationalisation strategies and goals. Higher education institutions should choose those indicators that fit their profile and national and institutional context. The goal dimensions of internationalisation are linked with the indicators through a balanced scorecard.

Glossary and manuals are available to facilitate the use of the IMPI toolbox.

Self-evaluation and benchmark reports

During the IMPI project, Nuffic  and her partners supported various higher education institutions in evaluating and benchmarking internationalisation. In a series of  three workshops institutions went through a process of self-assessment or group comparison (benchmarking). Reports of these self-evaluations and benchmark processes were prepared by the IMPI partners. Formats for both the data collection and the reports are made available through the IMPI website.

More information

The project , which Nuffic undertook with the ACA, Campus France, the CHE, Perspektywy and SIU, will be officially completed by the end of September after a project period of three years.
