The ins and outs of working with Mexican institutions
What opportunities are there for Dutch higher education institutions to start up or intensify cooperation with Mexican counterparts? Learn about the ins and outs of working with Mexican institutions in our new report.
Demand from Mexican institutions
Most renowned Mexican higher education institutions have an internationalisation policy and are constantly expanding the possibilities for their students and staff to go abroad. Their main fields of interest are engineering, technology and administration.
Private higher education institutions are mainly interested in students and staff exchange, and to a lesser extent in research programmes. Public higher education institutions are looking for both academic exchange and joint research programmes. Both have an increasing interest in double degree programmes.
Funding
The Mexican government supports international cooperation in higher education through the Integral Programme for Institutional Strengthening (Programa Integral de Fortalecimiento Institucional, PIFI). PIFI aims to increase the quality of academic services and programmes in energy, environmental studies, healthy ageing and design.
The National Council for Science and Technology (CONACyT) offers funding, mainly for joint research programmes and scholarships for master’s or PhD students. In our new report you will find an example of how to submit an agreement to CONACyT.
Nuffic Neso services
Nuffic Neso Mexico stimulates cooperation between Dutch and Mexican institution in many ways. In 2011, during the ‘Year of Tourism’, Nuffic Neso Mexico visited the higher education institutions in the Cancún-Mérida region, one of the main tourist destinations in the world. We negotiated cooperation in the form of students exchange between Dutch and local institutions and applied research centres in the field of tourism. This cooperation may even expand to joint research in this field.
